HUMANS
A poem by Mae DesTroismaisons
We were given it all for free
And yet we still can’t seem
To overcome our own inherent greed
A dirty addiction we feed
When what we need
Is a revolution
Societal evolution
To finally find some sort of golden solution for all the pollution
Particularly that of our minds
It’s high time we open our eyes and read the signs
Intellectually accelerated, we’ve been separated
From our own Mother we used and left jaded
Should have waited and been educated of the potential effects
Of what we were creating--a mess
All because we never asked, “What next?”
We’ve got designer genetics for aesthetics and cosmetics and
On the table in a modified McChicken dinner
But as long as we pray to McGod we’re not sinners
The only goal is control so we burn coal and ignore the toll
It takes on the lungs of our own young ones
And what’s worse
Is that we have the power to fix them all
The problems of this world we claim and call our own
As if we have some greater right to life on Earth
Than any other of our brothers She also birthed
So are we really so elite and superior?
Does our species have a right to interfere
With the same process that got us here
In the first place?
When did life become this fast-paced corrupt rat race?
Now it’s twenty past four in the morning
And I’m feeling a feeling like this is the final warning
But I’ve got this tiny seed, so follow me
And I’ll lead you to the place we can plant it
Watch it grow into a tree—a freckle on the face of the planet
You see, we possess the ability to advance past this
But we miss the chance with each moment that passes
As we spend our paychecks on big brands
And watch the freedom slip through our hands
Like fingers holding sifting sand
It’s time to take a stand and vote with our dollars
In order to break free of these shackles and shock collars
And leashes held tight in the fists of corporate leeches
Thriving in a system that preaches freedom of speech
And yet it will not teach us
Art, music, culture, science, and conservation
And then blames it on the youth for “lack of motivation”
So they have us pop these pills of prescription medications
When all that we really need is intelligent innovation
Maybe some inspiration to think beyond nations
HUMANS MUST UNITE TO AVOID DAMNATION.
